Callanish standing stones, Isle of Lewis

After the storm, Callanish Standing Stones

Photography workshops on the Isles of Harris and Lewis
I lead three five-day landscape and seascape photography workshops each year during February, May and November on the Isles of Harris, Lewis & Scalpay for a maximum of four attending photographers on each workshop.
The Hebridean Islands of Harris, Lewis & Scalpay are well known as a landscape and seascape photographer's paradise.  Each Island has it's own character and topography and numerous iconic locations that every photographer will want to visit.
I live on Scalpay and this is an major advantage for my workshop guests;  I have extensive personal local knowledge of less-visited locations on the Islands and you will  have the opportunity to create images in those locations that many visiting workshops will be unaware of.
All film and digital photographers are welcome to attend my workshops regardless of their level of experience, ethnicity or gender orientation.  Everyone is treated with the same respect and consideration throughout.
The emphasis is on maximising your time with my tuition to  improving your existing skills learning whilst having fun and exploring everything the Islands have to offer for landscape and travel photographers.
I recommend that you book your accommodation at the Harris Hotel in Tarbert.  The Harris Hotel is a short walk from the Uig-Tarbert ferry terminal, it is our daily meeting point and we will end each day at the Hotel with a meal in the dining room and image reviews and drinks in the cosy bar.
Travel to and from locations during the workshop is based on car-sharing, so please be prepared to take your turn driving.  The workshop itinerary has been carefully devised to visit at least three different locations on each day but the overall driving distances are quite short.  The longest return journey will be to the Butt of Lewis which is around 1.5hrs each way from Tarbert.  The bonus is that there are several major locations en route, including Callanish Standing Stones, Dun Carloway, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Shawbost Norse Mill, Dalmore, Dalbeg and Nis.   .
There will be early starts sunrise and late finishes for sunsets, so please be prepared for long days in the field.  The weather across the Islands is notoriously fickle, it can change from calm and sunny to gales, rain, sleet  and hail storms very quickly so appropriate clothing and footwear is mandatory
Along with your camera and lenses, charger, batteries, memory cards etc, you will need to bring a tripod, spare quick release plate, a couple of remote releases (1 spare), neutral density, polarising and graduated filters, laptop, charger, card reader and external drive for browsing, editing and archiving your images.
Accommodation, meals, refreshments, equipment and travel to and from the Islands and Harris Hotel are not included in the costs of the workshop.
I strongly recommend that you review your photographic equipment insurance beforehand to ensure you have adequate cover before the workshop begins.
The locations we  visit during the workshop will not require strenuous hiking or climbing skills but you will need a moderate level of fitness and be able to walk short distances on undulating boggy ground and sandy beaches.
The  cost for a five day workshop is £1100.  Please book six nights accommodation to cover the duration of the workshop.
If you prefer a one-to-one workshop of 1 day duration or spread over multiple days with me, I will be more than happy to discuss this with you and provide you with a quote for a suitable itinerary.
If you are a film photographer, I have film processing equipment and chemistry which you are welcome to use.
